Why he might be annoying:

He makes mostly teen films.
He emerged during the American independent film renaissance of the 90s.
His films are nearly always set around a 24-hour period of time (or less).
When he doesn't stick to his usual formula, his films are not well received by critics.
He is a 'self-taught' writer/director.
He refers to his work as 'the youth rebellion continuum.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He is very much an indie director and an inspiration to people trying break into directing.
He made his highly successful, highly acclaimed feature film debut 'Slackers' on a budget of less than $23,000.
At the 1995 Berlin International Film Festival, he won the Silver Berlin Bear for Best Director on 'Before Sunrise.'
At the 2001 Venice Film Festival, he won the CinemAvvenire Award for 'Walking Life' and the Laterna Magica Prize - Special Mention for 'Walking Life' and 'Tape.'
He brought us Rory Cochrane, Adam Goldberg, Marissa Ribisi, Matthew McConaughey and Parker Posey.
He often works with Ethan Hawke and Nicky Katt.
He is one of the most successful directors to come out of the indie film renaissance of the 90's.
