Starred in 131 Westerns, 64 as the Durango Kid
Appeared in the non-Westerns ‘Fast and Low’ (1930), ‘The Mask of Fu Manchu’ (1932), and ‘Start Cheering’ (1938)

Why he might be annoying:

He said, ‘I only agreed to do Westerns for two years, but they caught on, and it went on for seventeen years.’
He eventually walked out of his contract to protest playing nothing but cowboys.
When Columbia Pictures gave in to his demands and cast him in the non-Western ‘Start Cheering,’ he portrayed a disenchanted movie star who wants to do something different with his life. (Where do the scriptwriters come up with these ideas?)
He said about the Durango Kid films, ‘After about the first ten, it was like doing the same story over again.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He was left handed.
While playing on the Dartmouth football team, he was hired as an extra for the football scenes in ‘The Quarterback.’ (1926)
He was a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild.
The white silk scarf he wore as a trademark in his Westerns was trimmed from a silk nightgown worn by Rita Hayworth in an earlier picture. (‘It always blew beautifully in the breeze.’)
He was married to Mary McKinnon for 57 years.
