Vocalist

The Resume

    (July 17, 1963- )
    Born in Englewood, New Jersey
Sang the female lead in the pop version of 'A Whole New World' with Peabo Bryson for Disney's 'Aladdin'
Recorded 'Baby Come to Me,' 'Make it Like It Was,' 'Without You,' and 'Love T.K.O.'
Released albums 'All By Myself,' 'Stay With Me,' 'Passion,' 'Reachin' Back,' and 'Believe in Me'

Why she might be annoying:

    She is a one-hit wonder.
She said: 'I used to always say I did music, I've always done music, its something that comes so easy, maybe I wanna go into accounting. I decided that in college. Not. Then I woke up and smelled the tea.'
She released an album titled 'This is Regina!'
She was called a poor man's Phyllis Hyman.
She tried to make traction as an opera singer.
She wasn't as successful as Peabo's other (less frequent) duet partner, Celine Dion.
For all the praise she got for her rendition, its not uncommon to find fans of the movie who much prefer Lea Salonga's film version, which puts more feeling/emotion into it.
She recorded the pop version for the Disney-lite 'Swan Princess' ballad 'Far Longer Than Forever.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She underwent treatment for a brain tumor, in 2009.
She modeled her vocal arrangement and style on Billie Holiday's.
She has been happily married to former NBA player John Battle for over 25 years.
She recorded duets with Ray Charles and Johnny Mathis.
She made a successful transition from R&B/Pop to both Gospel and Jazz.
She's a college dropout, but opted to return to taking classes at Rutgers years later to successfully complete her degree.
She was discovered by Columbia Records singing 'Where Did We Go Wrong' with The Manhattans (which was incidentally her recording debut).
She and Bryson shared a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, for 'Whole New World' (1993).
She performed for President George W. Bush during a Black Music Month celebration in the East Room of the White House (June 30, 2001).
She and Bryson bumped Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You' off the #1 Billboard slot, with 'Whole New World' ending its record 14-week stay at the top.
