The Resume

    (May 10, 1940-June 9, 1993)
    Born in Sheffield, Alabama
    Country songwriter and soul singer

Why he might be annoying:

He was never as successful as the artists who covered his songs.
He recorded his first single under the name of June Alexander.
Success in the form of a music comeback eluded him for most of the sixties and seventies.
His hit song 'Anna' is best known for being the subject of a Married with Children episode in which Al Bundy struggles to remember the artist who sang it.
Despite its title, throughout the song 'Anna' is sung as 'go with him' and not 'go to him.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked as a bus driver when his career stalled.
He pioneered blending the genres of country and R&B.
'Anna' was a personal favorite of John Lennon's and it was part of the Beatles' early repertoire.
His career started to revive in the late 1980s; enough to warrant a new record deal (unfortunately he suffered a fatal heart attack the following month).
He was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame (1990).
His songs were made into hit singles by the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Ike & Tina Turner
