    (July 11, 1952- )
Directed 'The Driller Killer (1979),' 'Ms. 45 (1981),' 'King of New York (1990),' 'Bad Lieutenant (1992),' 'Body Snatchers (1993),' 'Dangerous Game (1993),' 'The Addiction (1995),' 'The Funeral (1996),' 'The Blackout (1997),' 'New Rose Hotel (1998)' and 'R Xmas (2001)'
    He started by directing porn.
He constantly makes films that portray New York as a dirty, seedy and violent city.
His films are banned in many countries due to extreme violence.
Despite having many detractors he still pushes the envelope with the violence he depicts.
His trademark as a director is to hold shots for very long periods of time.
He shoots his films on very small budgets and short time frames.
He stands by his indie roots often working with the same cast (namely Christopher Walken and Harvey Keitel) and crew.
Although his films rarely do well at the box office and are usually panned by critics, he never caters to others and never refrains from making violent films.
He has achieved a cult status.
