    (1959- )
    Formed in Portland, Oregon
    1963 line-up:
Jack Ely - lead singer, guitar
    Lynn Easton - drums
    Mike Mitchell - lead guitar
    Bob Nordby - bass
    Don Galucci - keyboards
Best known for the song 'Louie, Louie'
Also recorded 'Little Latin Lupe Lu,' 'The Jolly Green Giant' and 'Money'
Made a cameo appearance in 'How To Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965)'
Galucci produced and played keyboards for The Stooges second album 'Fun House (1970)'
There have been groups before and after them named The Kingsmen, including a side project formed by Bill Haley's Comets and the group later renamed Sha Na Na.
They recorded 'Louie, Louie' in 1963, but it took until 1964 for it to become a hit.
They recorded in a 'hollow sounding' studio for 50 bucks.
The barely intelligible lyrics were incorrectly thought to be obscene, prompting an FBI investigation.
After it became a hit Ely and Easton formed separate bands - with Easton copyrighting the name, claiming ownership and making himself lead singer.
Easton can't sing 'Louie, Louie' properly, so he's been known to lip-sync it at gigs.
'Louie, Louie' spent 16 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart in 1964 and reached #2.
Many artists (estimates are over 1,000) have recorded the song, but none more famously or successfully as them.
Their recording of 'Louie, Louie' is listed as #6 in Rolling Stone magazine's '50 Moments that Changed Rock and Roll' (2004).
Their record company had not paid the band royalties owed them for over 30 years until a court ruling awarded them their overdue cash.
Thanks in part to the 1978 movie 'Animal House,' the song is one of the all time favorite college frat party songs.
