    He was married four times and divorced three.
    During their divorce hearing, Garland claimed he was abusive.
    He tried repeatedly to sell Garland's Oscar and eventually was ordered to pay the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences $60,000.
    He was estranged from daughter Lorna Luft over her unflattering portrayal of him in her autobiography.
    Before the US entered World War II, he volunteered for the Canadian Royal Air Force (1940).
    He suffered severe burns on his legs and hands in a plane crash while serving as a test pilot for Douglas Aircraft.
    He helped resurrect Garland's career after MGM fired her in 1950 over her erratic behavior.
    Garland said, 'Sid kept telling me my career wasn't over that it had just begun... He took me through the dark times and I'll never forget that.'
    The Atlantic described him as 'a rare friend of Judy who wasn't a friend of Dorothy.'
