Why The Late Show with Stephen Colbert might be annoying:

Some Colbert Report were worried that because Colbert was going to host 'Late Show' as himself as opposed to his famous fictional alter ego, his snarky and sardonic humor would never be the same.
While he was interviewing then-US presidential candidate Jeb Bush, Colbert said 'I used to play a narcissistic conservative pundit–now I'm just a narcissist.'
For a post-Super Bowl episode, he broadcast from his New York home set rather than on location in San Francisco where Super Bowl 50 was being held at.
Initially, he was trailing The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in Nielsen ratings.
When Colbert attempted to bring back his famous alter ego from his previous talk show, Viacom (parent company of Comedy Central) threatened a lawsuit citing breach of contract.

Why The Late Show with Stephen Colbert might not be annoying:

The Ed Sullivan Theater, where the show is taped, underwent a full renovation to its original glory including the restoration of the stained glass window ceiling and adjacent chandelier.
His first interview with then-US Vice President Joe Biden received praise from television critics.
In light of Viacom's lawsuit regarding his former character, Colbert defied them by bringing back his alter ego's 'twin brother' who happens to also be named 'Stephen Colbert.'
In the aftermath of Trump's election to the US presidency, many critics lauded him for his edgy and biting take on the administration that was unfolding.
After the second full season, the total viewership exceeded that of The Tonight Show's numbers.
