Football Coach

The Resume

    (April 4, 1947- )
Head Coach, University of Maryland football
Named 2001 National Coach of the Year
    Nicknamed ‘The Fridge'

Why he might be annoying:

He is the coach in the Under Armor commercials (‘We must protect this house!').
He demands his players are in shape, but he weighs a good three and a half bills (350 lbs.).
He went from being a Division I athlete to being very obese.
There is a strong sentiment that he was discriminated against because of his weight.
He is known to have an explosive temper.
He always says ‘Are you in or are you out?' to his players.

Why he might not be annoying:

Holding true to his mantra, when it surfaced that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had offered him the head coaching job, his players asked him if he was in or out. He told them, ‘Don't worry…I'm in.'
He has built the Terps from a laughingstock into an emerging power in the ACC.
He parted ways with a blue-chip recruit when he found out that the player might have received a Play Station from an assistant coach.
In his first season, he led the Terps to a 10-2 record, a top 10 national ranking, and the first outright ACC title for any other school since Florida State entered the league.
He appeared in a BCS Bowl his first year as head coach.
He was instrumental in developing several NFL quarterbacks.
Due to his ability to develop NFL talent, many blue-chip prospects will now consider Maryland.
There is a rabid section of Byrd Stadium affectionately known as ‘Friedgen's Legion' in tribute to him.
He sings the Maryland fight song with the fans after a win.
