    (April 30, 1889-December 20, 1944)
Hid with the Frank and Van Pels families in the 'Secret Annexe' (1942-1944)
Died from starvation and enterocolitis at the Neuengamme camp in Germany
    He was divorced.
His pseudonym 'Dussel,' in Anne's original diary, means 'idiot' in German.
He was constantly preaching and lecturing to Anne.
Anne wrote that he had greasy hair and smelled funny.
His arrival at the 'Secret Annexe' made the crowded living conditions even worse.
He was a licensed dentist and jaw surgeon.
He got custody of his son from his first marriage.
He wisely sent his only son to England when the Nazis took over Germany.
His father and sister were killed in the Nazi death camps.
Stage and screen versions of 'The Diary of Anne Frank' portrayed him as prissy and self-centered.
His second wife, Charlotte, stopped speaking to Otto Frank, believing it was his fault her dead husband was portrayed in a negative light (it was the fault of those who wrote the stage play and movie script).
