Baseball Player

The Resume

    (November 29, 1960- )
    Born in Clearwater, Florida
    Nickname is HoJo
Converted pitcher played third base and left field for the Detroit Tigers (1982-84), the New York Mets (1985-93), the Colorado Rockies (1994) and the Chicago Cubs (1995)
Career statistics: 228 home runs, 231 stolen bases, .249 batting average, National League All-Star team member (1989 & 1991)

Why he might be annoying:

He has nothing to do with the hotel/restaurant chain.
Though he was a switch hitter his numbers were consistently poorer when he batted right.
He followed up good offensive years with mediocre ones and by 1992 his offense had deserted him.
His World Series contributions were zero, as in 0-1 with the 1984 Tigers and 0-5 with the 1986 Mets.
After retiring in 1995 he attempted a 1997 comeback with the Mets, but a .129 spring training quickly changed his mind.
He was on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot in 2001 but received no votes in his only try and dropped from future balloting.

Why he might not be annoying:

After platooning with Ray Knight in 1986 Knight became a free agent and he took the opportunity to excel, becoming a 30/30 club member.
In both 1989 and 1991 his name came up in trade rumors and he responded both times with staggering offensive years and two more 30/30 club entries.
In 1991 he led the National League in homers and RBIs.
Upon doing so he became the first switch-hitter to ever lead the NL in both homers and RBIs the same season.
Opposing manager Whitey Herzog would sometimes have umps inspect his bats for cork, and finally relented by suggesting his arms should be checked for cork instead.
He has two World Series rings and is the first National Leaguer to have three 30/30 (homers/stolen bases) seasons.
