TV Series
    (October 28, 2005-February 2, 2007)
Showtime anthology series featuring episodes directed by top horror directors
Directors included; John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, John Landis, and Joe Dante
Standout episodes included; 'Cigarette Burns,' 'The Damned Thing,' 'The Screwfly Solution,' and the pilot, 'Incident On and Off a Mountain Road'
It was an overall disappointment critically and ratings wise.
A lot of the episodes were simply boring.
The episodes 'Dance of the Dead' and 'Valerie on the Stairs' were virtually incoherent.
One episode was about a haunted racoonskin coat and another was about a cabal of cannibalistic descendants of George Washington.
They used few regular sci-fi/horror writers, instead using career TV writers.
Its only major award (or nomination) was an Emmy for its theme music.
Only one episode was directed by a woman.
Overall, the writing was quite good.
Unlike most cable series, the producers didn't go over board with nudity/violence/profanity and didn't go crazy with special effects.
Instead of using big name actors and actresses, the producers used up and coming and B list performers including; Marisa Coughlan, Karen Austin, Bree Turner, Angus Scrimm, and Steven Weber, who all turned in superb performances.
A CD of the show's excellent music was released.
