Why he might be annoying:

He was a one-hit wonder in English-speaking countries.
‘Volare' was inspired by the illustration on a pack of cigarettes.
His song ‘Nuda' (1960) was banned from Italian radio for containing the lyric, ‘I would like to hold you nude in my arms.'
He caused a minor scandal at the Eurovision contest when he got angry at the orchestra and walked off the stage during dress rehearsals (1966).

Why he might not be annoying:

He won best song honors at the San Remo Festival of Music four times.
‘Volare' became a standard so fast that Billboard reviewed seven different versions in one issue (July 21, 1958).
He beat out industry heavyweights such as Frank Sinatra to win the first Grammy for Record of the Year (1959).
In Parliament, he campaigned for the rights of the mentally ill.
