(May 12, 1907-April 15, 1993)
Born in Singapore
Birth name was Leslie Charles Bowyer-Yin
Wrote 30+ books featuring Simon Templar, alias 'The Saint'
Why he might be annoying
He was married four times, divorced three times.
After the Saint became a success, he took several early works and 'shamelessly rewrote them as Saint stories.'
He quit writing Saint books in 1963, but ghostwritten titles were released under his name for another two decades.
Why he might not be annoying
His last marriage, to actress Audrey Long, lasted 41 years until his death.
Due to anti-Chinese immigration policies, he was unable to become a US citizen until Congress passed an act granting him and his daughter permanent residency.
He wrote a column on cuisine for Gourmet magazine (1966-68).
