The Resume

    (September 15, 1945- )
    Born in Whittier, California
Wrote and directed the films ‘Bull Durham’ (1988), ‘Blaze’ (1989), ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ (1992), ‘Cobb’ (1994), ‘Tin Cup’ (1996), ‘Play It to the Bone’ (1999), ‘Hollywood Homicide’ (2003), and ‘Just Getting Started’ (2017)

Why he might be annoying:

His films after ‘Tin Cup’ have usually been flops, critically and at the box office.
He said ‘Sports movies, generally, I don’t like.’
When he coached his son’s Little League team, he got thrown out of a lot of games: ‘I’d go out and argue like Earl Weaver, and you’re not supposed to do that.’

Why he might not be annoying:

‘Bull Durham’ won awards for best original screenplay from the National Society of Film Critics and the Writers Guild of America.
’Bull Durham’ was partly inspired by his own experiences playing in the Baltimore Orioles farm system.
’Sports Illustrated’ ranked ‘Bull Durham’ as the greatest sports film of all time (2003).
He sued 20th Century Fox for failing to pay him a promised share of the profits of ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ and won $10 million. The studio has not hired him since. (Sore losers.)
