The Resume

    (February 1, 1885-November 4, 1970)
Born in Vaihingen an der Enz , Germany
    Born August Friedrich Kellner
Sergeant in Prinz Carl Infantry Regiment (4. Großherzoglich Hessisches Regiment) Nr. 118 (WWI, Worms, Germany)
Organizer in the Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (Social Democratic Party of Germany, 1919)
Author of ‘Mein Widerstand’ (My Opposition, published 2011)

Why he might be annoying:

His views about propaganda led him to be called a ‘bad influence’ by the Laubach mayor and the local Nazi leader.
During Kristallnacht, or Night of the Broken Glass (November 1938), he was targeted in an ad hominem (‘to the man’) attack, subsequently overturned, based on their religion.
His son committed suicide because – having returned to Germany wearing the uniform of the enemy nation – he felt he was a man without a country.
Were it not for a Der Spiegel article on the elder George Bush viewing the notebooks in his namesake library at Texas A&M, German publishers might not have given it a second thought.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was born to a confectioner who would become the master baker at Goebels Zuckerwerk.
He spent some 30 years working in the Mainz courthouse.
During a rally at the Gutenberg Museum, he held aloft a copy of Hitler’s Mein Kampf and shouted, ‘Gutenberg, your printing press has been violated by this evil book.’
He was well prepared for the future, and entrusted his memoirs to his English-speaking grandson Robert (1968; ‘I could not fight the Nazis in the present, as they had the power to still my voice, so I decided to fight them in the future’).
He fathered one single child, who would become a member of the U.S. Army.
