Learned guitar and singing as a child
As a teen, he joined blues group 'Woody's Truck Stop'
Formed 'The Nazz,' a British-influenced rock group, with former bandmate Carl Van Osten (1967)
Released solo album 'Runt' (1970)
Single 'We Gotta Get You A Woman' went to top 20 in 1971
Later collaborated on many concept albums, including techno and fusion

Why he might be annoying:

He looked like a cross between Iggy Pop and John Cazale of 'Dog Day Afternoon.'
Many of his songs were campy, electro-pop novelties.
At one point, he went by the pretentious pseudonym 'TR-i.'
His techno album 'TR-i' was a sales flop.

Why he might not be annoying:

He taught himself how to play guitar.
His musical influences include Blues, Motown, The Beatles, The Yardbirds, and The Rolling Stones.
His band 'The Nazz' may have been the first British Invasion-influenced American rock group.
His lyrics were poetic, inspired, and catchy.
Rather than pursuing rock stardom, he instead explored his own musical repertoire, and produced groups like Badfinger and Grand Funk Railroad.
