    She became aware of the injustices Canadian women suffered at a young age.
    Along with her sister and Lady Aberdeen, she helped found organizations promoting equal rights for women.
    She advocated for temperance, the rising of the age of consent, equal parental rights, mothers' allowances and prison reform.
    She served as a Red Cross Leader during World War I.
    When World War I ended, all Allied resources were taxed up to the limit, so the War Committee asked her how to manage resources wisely, thus becoming the first woman in Canada to give advice to the government.
    As one of the Famous Five, she persuaded the Supreme Court of Canada that women were included as 'persons' (1930).
