The Resume

    (November 30, 1952- )
Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey
    Stop-motion animator
Directed the films ‘Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas’ (1993), ‘James and the Giant Peach’ (1996), ‘Monkeybone’ (2001), and ‘Coraline’ (2009)

Why he might be annoying:

He directed ads featuring the Pillsbury Doughboy.
Because producer Tim Burton’s name was inserted into the tile of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas,’ many viewers assumed Burton was also the director: ‘I was shoved pretty far in the background, which threw me.’
After ‘Coraline,’ he started several projects that got stuck in development hell.

Why he might not be annoying:

He and Burton became friends when they were students at CalArts and animator trainees at Walt Disney Productions.
He won a Clio Award (the Oscars of advertising) for a bumper he designed for MTV.
The Residents provided the soundtrack for his animated short ‘Slow Bob in the Lower Dimensions.’
Roger Ebert wrote about his work on ‘Nightmare,’ ‘He has made a world here that is as completely new as the worlds we saw for the first time in such films as ‘Metropolis,’ ‘The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,’ and ‘Star Wars.’’
