Why he might be annoying:

Although from Idaho, he spoke with a bizarre fake British accent.
He lived in a ménage à trois arrangement with two women (neither of whom was crazy about the idea).
He was an anti-Semite.
He became a fascist while living in Italy, and defended Mussolini on the radio and in print.
After World War II, he was charged with treason and sent to an insane asylum.
The head of the asylum coddled him, and even allowed him to have sex with his mistresses.
He looked like Colonel Sanders.

Why he might not be annoying:

He went insane.
He is considered one of the greatest 20th-century poets.
He looked to Japanese art and music for inspiration.
He wrote music as well as poetry.
At the end of World War II, American soldiers kept him in a cage for nearly a month.
He eventually apologized for his anti-Semitic past.
