    Born in United States
Religion inspired by the writings of HP Lovecraft, et al
Posits an atheistic, materialist worldview that Earth and humanity was once ruled and fought over by ancient 'gods' that were actually extremely powerful and usually physically huge aliens from outer space
Deities include; Cthulhu, Dagon, and Yog-Sothoth
It's not real, it's all just fictional writings, even Lovecraft said so.
One of the fictional books mentioned in Lovecraftian literature, The Necronomicon, was specifically denied to have existed by Lovecraft but there dozens of books in print claiming to be the real thing.
There are numerous discrepancies in Lovecraft's own writings and multiples more in the work of other authors in the genre.
Even if it is all real, there is still no reason to worship its gods since they all hate humanity and intend to destroy it.
It doesn't provide a creation myth or any type of moral code.
Strangely enough, its real life followers are usually very successful and educated but are usually portrayed as subhumans, mutants, inbred or some combinations thereof in its writings.
It's a great way to identify some very strange people who desperately need help and lives of their own.
The literature that has inspired it is some of the best science fiction and horror of all time.
On the other hand, these guys started a religion based on the science fiction writings of a verifiable kook and they now have lots of followers including some very rich and educated people.
If their writings are to be believed, then their religious ceremonies are a blast to attend.
