The Resume

    (March 25, 1939-December 2, 2019)
    Born in Sussex, New Jersey
Birth name was Dorothy Catherine Fontana
Story editor for Star Trek (seasons one and two), story editor and associate producer for Star Trek: The Animated Series, and associate producer for Star Trek: The Next Generation (season one)
Wrote the episodes ‘Tomorrow Is Yesterday,’ ‘This Side of Paradise, ‘ ‘Journey to Babel,’ ‘Friday’s Child,’ ‘The Enterprise Incident,’ ‘The Way to Eden,’ ‘Encounter at Farpoint,’ and ‘The Naked Now’
Also wrote episodes of ‘Bonanza,’ ‘Logan’s Run,’ ‘The Six Million Dollar Man,’ ‘Buck Rogers in the 25th Century,’ ‘The Waltons,’ ‘The Streets of San Francisco,’ ‘Dallas,’ and ‘Babylon 5’

Why she might be annoying:

She went by her initials while writing to avoid being judged on the basis of her gender.
She originally wrote for Westerns and had little interest in science fiction until she began working for Gene Roddenberry.
’The Way to Eden’ – the ‘space hippies’ episode – ranks with ‘Spock’s Brain’ as the most mockable episode of the original ‘Star Trek.’
During her time on ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ her relationship with Gene Roddenberry became so strained that she began taping their conversations.

Why she might not be annoying:

When she became story editor for ‘Star Trek,’ she was the youngest one in Hollywood.
Leonard Nimoy felt she was one of the few ‘Star Trek’ writers who created believable female characters.
She developed much of Spock’s backstory, including introducing his parents, Sarek and Amanda.
She conducted several ‘behind the camera’ interviews with production staffers for the official fanzine ‘Inside Star Trek.’
In fairness, her original script was heavily rewritten before being filmed as ‘The Way to Eden.’ (With the changes being sufficiently unwelcome that she used a pseudonym for her credit.)
