Why he might be annoying:

    He didn't start playing baseball until his later teen years, opting to play soccer instead.
    He struggled to adapt to batting at the bottom of the order, after getting bumped from his customary leadoff spot.
    He doused his uniform in alcohol and set it on fire with the hopes of ending a batting slump (1986).
    His decision to burn his uniform angered the Blue Jays managerial staff and played a factor in the team's decision to trade him.
    He struggled to hold down a roster spot following his departure from the Blue Jays.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served as the captain for the Dominican national men's soccer team at the Central American and Carribean Games (1974).
    He established himself as a full-time player upon being traded to the Blue Jays.
    He was diagnosed with a brain tumor a year after he retired from baseball.
    He ran a baseball camp in his home country of the Dominican Republic for children with hemophilia, a condition his oldest son was afflicted with.
    Despite being told he had six months to live following his initial diagnosis, he surpassed all odds and survived 25 more years, prior to his passing.
