Best known for her roles as Irene Lorenzo on the TV series All in the Family (1973-75) and Edna Babish on Laverne and Shirley (1976-82)
Acted in 'Big City (1948),' 'Words and Music (1948),' 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949),' 'On the Town (1949),' 'My Sister Eileen (1955),' 'The Shadow in the Window (1957)' and 'Trail of the Screaming Forehead (2007)'
Wrote the 1997 autobiography 'Betty Garrett and Other Songs'

Why she might be annoying:

Her character name in the 1949 film 'Neptune's Daughter' was Betty Barret (a stretch).
She named one of her sons with husband Larry Parks 'Garrett.'
As a result of her husband's ties with Communism (he was a Party member between 1941-45, she dabbled in it) they were both blacklisted.
Though they worked up a singing/dancing/comedy act in Las Vegas, both of their respective movie companies dropped their contracts.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was able to break out of the blacklist stigma but her husband, who refused to name names, saw his career vanish.
She states her husband never emotionally recovered from the blacklisting and died in 1975 at age 60.
In 1975 she won a Golden Globe as 'Best Supporting Actress' for her work on All in the Family.
In May 2003 she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
