The Resume

    (1983- )
Plays baseball for Wesleyan College (Division III school)

Why he might be annoying:

As a 12 year old NY Yankee fan, he reached over the right field wall in game 1 of 1996 ALCS playoffs, interfering with Tony Tarasco's chance to catch Derek Jeter's hit ball (October 9, 1996).
He did not catch the ball. Instead, it hit off his glove and rolled into the stands.
At one time, he was the most hated person in Baltimore.
His name is usually brought up every year during the Yankees playoff games.
He became an instance celebrity after that controversial catch. He appeared on a few talk shows and NBC interviewed him during the game.
He is responsible for Umpire Rich Garcia's horrible ruling to credit the Yankees with a home run.
The famous controversial home run was given up by Armando Benitez, who later pitched for the Yankees (July 2003).
He cut school to attend the 1996 playoff game.
He dropped the caught ball in the stands. Another New York fan retrieved the baseball and refused to give it to him. The fan eventually sold the baseball for a few thousand dollars.
When Tony Tarasco played for the Yankees, the bleacher creatures called out 'Jeffrey! Jeffrey!' instead of Tony Tarasco.
He should have been thrown out of Yankee stadium for interfering with the play.
Ken Rosenthal's Baltimore Sun article 'Hey, New York, we can play by 'Bronx Rules' too' condemned the Bronx for the actions of Maier, although Maier was not from the Bronx.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a camp counselor at baseball fever, located in Demarest, NJ.
He got a chance to meet Tony Tarasco at a baseball camp he worked at.
    NY Yankee fans love him.
He got a key to New York City in 1996.
In 1996, he made the front page of the 'New York Times,' 'New York Post' and 'Washington Post.'
He and his father called Tony Tarasco to apologize.
