His only hit was a novelty song about the early do-wop days of rock & roll - subsequent singles failed to chart.

He was influenced by blues music growing up, and proudly jammed with blues legends Jimmy Witherspoon, Freddie King and B.B. King.
Ironically, his song did reach #18 with a bullet (meaning strong seller), peaking at #15 in 1975.
He wrote the title track for Olivia Newton-John's 1977 album 'Making a Good Thing Better.'
He toured as a keyboardist for The Hollies in the 1970s and with The Everly Brothers in the 1980s and '90s.
He's done session work with Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, Alan Parsons, Al Stewart and Nazareth.
He produced Dexy's Midnight Runners 1980 debut album and The Proclaimers smash hit 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).'
