The Resume

    (January 28, 1882-June 23, 1965)
    Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    Middle name was Anne
Selected filmography includes 'Three Cornered Moon (1933),' 'Ruggles of Red Cap (1935),' 'The Women (1939),' 'Pride and Prejudice (1940),' 'Nothing But Trouble (1944),' and 'Julia Misbehaves (1948)'
Appeared on Broadway in ‘Clarence’ (1919-20), 'The Cradle Snatchers' (1925-26), 'Meet the Wife' (1923-24), 'The Vinegar Tree' (1930-31), 'Jubilee' (1935-36) and Hellzapoppin (1938-41)

Why she might be annoying:

She tried to achieve stardom in silent films and failed.
She returned to Hollywood eleven years later (during the advent of talkies) and this time it worked.
She ended up getting typecast in supporting roles as vacuous, featherbrained matrons, though.
She closed off her illustrious Broadway career with a starring role in ‘Lullaby’ (it flopped and closed after little over a month).

Why she might not be annoying:

She entertained soldiers in France during World War I.
She did a show with Edna May Oliver where they played abandoned wives who take on young lovers. (Her beau? A young Humphrey Bogart!)
Her last acting role was reprising her role as the extravagant Countess DeClave in the 1955 TV adaptation of ‘The Women.’
Her turn as the overly eager social-climber Mrs. Bennett in Pride and Prejudice is considered by some to be the definitive version (which is high praise considering her competition is Brenda Blethyn and Alison Steadman).
