    The show originally was to revolve around Elyse and her life as a career woman, but eventually the show revolved around Alex.
    Meredith Baxter reportedly was jealous of Michael J. Fox's success on the show.
    On the series finale, Elyse was shown as being cold against Alex, calling him cold, arrogant and ungrateful. This may have represented Meredith's real-life jealously.

    The show touched on issues like teen pregnancy, alcoholism, divorce, racism and sexual assault.
    The episode where Jennifer got an F for writing her book report on 'Huckleberry Finn' actually brought up a real issue in the school systems. Some books are actually banned in certain school districts.
    Although Alex was portrayed as the smartest character, some of the other characters were pretty smart too. Jennifer was also a straight-A student, and the parents attended Berkeley.
    It made 'At This Moment' by Billy Vera a very popular song during the 1980s.
    Tracy Pollan played Michael J Fox's love interest on the show, they then married in real life.
