Why he might be annoying:

He quit Warner Brothers over being typecast as a crooner (1940).
When he played hard-boiled detective Philip Marlowe in ‘Farewell My Lovely,’ the studio worried that the title and Powell’s past would make the audiences think the film was a musical, so they changed the title to ‘Murder My Sweet.’
    He was a driven workaholic.
He was married three times and divorced twice.
He directed the legendary bomb ‘The Conqueror,’ featuring John Wayne miscast as Genghis Khan.

Why he might not be annoying:

He successfully transformed himself from a crooner to a film noir star.
Raymond Chandler said that Powell came closest to his own vision of Marlowe.
He said, ‘The best thing about switching from being an actor to being a director is that you don’t have to shave or hold your stomach in anymore.’
He has two stars on the Hollywood walk of Fame for his movie and TV work.
He is one of many ‘Conqueror’ cast and crew members to have died from cancer, allegedly as a result of shooting at a location downwind from a nuclear bomb test site.
