Best known for his weekly radio broadcasts to Depression-era Americans (1926-1940)
Priest from the Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Michigan
Founded the National Union for Social Justice (1935)
Co-founder of the short-lived Union Party (1936)
Published the newspaper 'Social Justice'

Why he might be annoying:

He was the Pat Robertson of radio.
His radio broadcasts gradually changed from sermons to political commentary.
He opposed Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal programs.
Before World War II, he expressed support for Hitler and Mussolini's fascist states.
He became so anti-Semitic that church officials ordered him to stop his radio broadcasts (1940).

Why he might not be annoying:

He strongly opposed communism.
He supported Roosevelt during the 1932 election, coining the phrase 'Roosevelt or ruin.'
At his height, his broadcasts were listened to by over one-third of Americans.
He held enormous political power, without ever being elected to a public office.
