    (March 4, 1914- )
    Born in New Hampshire
Wrote the novels 'The House Without Windows' (1927) and 'The Voyage of the Norman D.' (1928)

    She was a child prodigy.
Between early fame and home schooling, she had trouble relating to other kids.
She told a neighbor's child, 'You don't understand why I have my work to do, because at this particular time you have none at all.'
She went from being an acclaimed novelist at age 14 to working as a typist at 16.
After a quarrel with her husband, she left their apartment with $30 in her pocket and was never seen again.
'The Saturday Review of Literature' described her first novel as 'almost unbearably beautiful.'
At 14, she was emotionally devastated when her father left the family for a younger woman.
Her father's departure also left her and her mother in financial straits.
Her husband, Nickerson Rogers, did not contact the police until two weeks after her disappearance and waited another four months before requesting that a missing persons bulletin be issued.
Her mother told Rogers, 'All of this silence on your part looks as if you had something to hide concerning Barbara’s disappearance.'
