    Killed by Lee Harvey Oswald as he was fleeing the assassination of John F. Kennedy (November 22, 1963)
    Posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor from the National Police Hall of Fame (1964)
    Many conspiracy theories claim that he had a part in the Kennedy death.
    He may have had links with the Mafia.
    The mysterious circumstances surrounding his death under have given rise to countless accusations of other people being involved in his murder, even though eyewitnesses clearly saw Oswald shoot him.
    He served in the Seventeenth Airborne Division during World War II.
    He was a dedicated family man.
    He approached Oswald as he was running away from Kennedy's murder.
    The two conversed for a few minutes until Oswald pulled out a gun and fired four shots into Tippit.
