    His grandfather was named Vsevolod the Big Nest.
    His name is spelled a lot of different ways; sometimes it's Aleksandr Nevski.
    He didn't get along with Russia's boyars.
    He was kicked out of Novgorod.
    He let his country remain a vassal of the Mongols.

    He and his foot soldiers defeated an army of German and Swedish invaders in 1240 and 1242.
    His name, ‘Nevsky,' means ‘of the Neva,' a reference to the Neva River, where he won his first military victory.
    He probably appeased the Mongols to keep them from invading Russia.
    He signed a peace treaty with Norway.
    He was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1547.
    Sergei Eisenstein directed a film about him.
    He is a symbol of Russian patriotism.
