Why he might be annoying:

His first year in the Negro League, he played under an assumed name to avoid jeopardizing his college athletic scholarship.
He led the AL in strikeouts twice (1952-53).
He was thrown out of a game and fined for fighting with Yankees Art Ditmar and Billy Martin (June 12, 1957).
He was overshadowed by Jackie Robinson.

Why he might not be annoying:

In high school, he lettered in four sports: baseball, football, basketball and track.
He served with the Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
He and Helen Curvy were married for 55 years.
He was one of a handful of players to have been on the winning teams in both the Negro World Series (1946) and the Major League World Series (1948).
When he and his wife bought a house in the 'white' section of Patterson, New Jersey, the mayor had to intervene on their behalf (1949).
The New York Times wrote, 'Larry Doby integrated all those American League ball parks where Jackie Robinson never appeared. And he did it with class and clout.'
He noted, '[Jackie Robinson] was first, but the crap I took was just as bad. Nobody said, 'We're gonna be nice to the second black.''
