    (March 2, 1935- )
Born in New York City, New York
    Machine operator from Queens
Murdered Kitty Genovese near her Queens apartment (March 13, 1964)
Convicted of murdering her and two other women and sentenced to death (June 15, 1964)
Sentenced commuted to life imprisonment (June 1, 1967)
A family man by day (wife & two kids), he prowled the night for women to victimize, stating they 'fought back less.'
He raped dozens of women, but claimed it wasn't satisfying for him as her preferred to rape corpses.
He confessed to three murders and provided details only the killer would know, so his trial was an open and shut, rock solid case.
During a 1968 trip to the hospital for a self-inflicted wound, he overpowered a guard and escaped.
While on the lam he took five people hostage and raped a woman in front of her husband.
He was eventually recaptured in Buffalo and had time added to his life sentence.
He participated in the deadly 1971 Attica Prison riot.
His murders were not headline grabbers - it took a newspaper article stating how 38 people had heard Kitty Genovese's cries for help and chose to not get involved that turned it into a news sensation.
Confessing to the crimes made it easy for prosecutors to convince a jury to not buy an insanity defense and convict him of all charges.
In 1977, he became one of the first inmates in New York State to earn a college degree, receiving a B.A. in Sociology from Niagara University.
In November 2011, he was denied parole a fifteenth time, reinforcing the chances of him never successfully achieving freedom.
