Why he might be annoying:

He is deeply religious.
He believes we should all bring Christ into our work.
He formed a religious organization called the High Flight Foundation.
He went to Mount Ararat in Turkey, in an unsuccessful search for Noah's Ark.
He and his crew took along 400 commemorative stamped first day covers to the Moon. They sold them to finance their children's education, greatly upsetting NASA. As punishment, he was prohibited from flying in future missions.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the fourth of six men to pilot a lunar module landing onto the Moon.
His one and only space flight was for a walk on the Moon.
He graduated the U.S. Naval Academy (1951).
He helped develop the Mach-3 YF-12A interceptor.
He, along with Irvin, were the first to use the Lunar rover.
He and Irvin set up an ALSEP science station on the Moon.
Along with Irvin, they were the first to televise their lunar lift off (August 2, 1971 - 1:11 P.M. EDT).
