Tennis Player
    (December 14, 1946- )
    Born in Pasadena, California
Won men's singles titles at the US Open (1971) and Wimbledon (1972)
Won men's doubles titles at the Australian Open (1970) and the US Open (1968,1974,1978,1980)
Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame (1987)
He shares a name with the lead character from American Dad!
As a teen, he tried to become a ballboy at the Davis Cup, but was turned down for being too clumsy.
He is better known for the Adidas Stan Smith tennis shoe than his tennis career.
The picture on the sneaker label does not look much like him, since it is missing his signature mustache: 'For about six months, I shaved it off. That's when they took the picture.'
Ironically, his tennis shoe is no longer recommended for competitive tennis players.
He was a three-time All American at USC.
He played on a record eight Davis Cup winning teams for the US (1968-72,1978-79,1981).
He was known for his calm under pressure, notably at the 1972 Davis Cup in Romania, where he faced a rabidly partisan home crowd and biased officiating.
The Stan Smith Adidas was the best selling tennis shoe of all time, with over 40 million pairs sold.
