Why he might be annoying:

The cartoon sparked riots that resulted in over a hundred deaths.
In a bit of wimping out, he suggested that the cartoon did not 'necessarily' depict Muhammad.
When an axe-wielding Somali Muslim broke into his house, he hid in a panic room, leaving his five-year-old granddaughter behind (January 1, 2010).

Why he might not be annoying:

Those hundred deaths say more about the annoyingness of the rioters than the cartoonist.
He has been a teacher and principal at schools for handicapped children.
He said, 'I think we are in a period in which [freedom of speech] is under pressure, so it has to be defended.'
PET (the Danish security agency) had told him that terrorists usually do not go after family members and stick to their targets, and his granddaughter was unharmed.
He said he has nothing against Islam, adding, 'But of course, I have anger against those who have tried to kill me.'
He received the Sappho Award from the Free Press Society for a ''journalist who combines excellence in his work with courage and a refusal to compromise.'
