    (September 29, 1898-November 20, 1976)
Head of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the Soviet Union
    Maintained his journal 'Vernalization'
    Namesake of the term 'Lysenkoism'
He used propaganda and lies in order to convince political figures of his successes in agriculture.
Stalin believed in him mostly because his 'agricultural science' was in line with the 'peasant miracle' myths.
He claimed he got an entire barren winter field in Azerbaijan to produce peas. It was later discovered the winter was unusually warm during the test season, and peas in later years failed to grow.
He never tested his theories beyond a reasonable doubt but still presented them as facts.
The results of his initiatives were always trumped up and made to look like miracles.
He had thousands of scientists who disagreed with him sent to the gulags.
His scientific policies were still in place in China years after he fell out of favor in the Soviet Union.
His policies dominated the Soviet Union for almost 40 years.
    He politicized agricultural science.
He was born into poverty and rose to became one of the most powerful Soviet politicians.
He won numerous awards in the Soviet Union.
He was quick to develop solutions to problems (even though most of the solutions made no sense).
He was able to get the peasants to stop destroying their grain after the collectivization movement.
He was able to galvanize peasants into feeling as though they were a crucial part of the Soviet Union.
His immunity to criticism eventually collapsed.
He is an example of why the government should not dabble in science.
