    Pioneered the study of karst topography, a kind of landscape formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks
    Fought in Austro-Turkish war (1663-1664)
    Elected Fellow of the Royal Society in London (1687)
    Wrote 'Glory of the Duchy of Carniola' (1689)
    Died in Krško, Slovenia
    His last name means 'carrier of the feud' in Latin.
    He refused to attend university.
    Despite being recognized as one of Slovenia's historical icons, he wrote exclusively in New High German.
    It wasn't until 2009 that 'Glory of the Duchy of Carniola' was finally translated to Slovene.
    He was an extensive traveler, having traveled all over western Europe and even north Africa.
    His father died when he was ten.
    Six of his children died before they could reach adulthood, their ages ranging between nine months to six years.
    His first wife died of exhaustion as a result of about twelve pregnancies or so.
    He was credited for introducing copper printing to Carniola (modern-day Slovenia). (April 12, 1678)
    'Glory of the Duchy of Carniola' raised the Slovenes' self-awareness as a nation.
