    (September 10, 1908-February 8, 1994)
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
    Birth name was Harry Warnow
Orchestra leader for 'Your Hit Parade' (1949-57)
His songs became familiar after he sold his publishing rights to Warner Brothers who then used his music in Loony Tunes cartoons
Best known composition was 'Powerhouse' (1937)
He formed a six-piece band but called it a quintet because it sounded 'crisper.'
He gave his compositions idiosyncratic titles like 'New Year's Eve in a Haunted House,' 'Reckless NIght on Board an Ocean Liner' and 'Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals.'
His dislike for improvisation alienated jazz critics.
In the late 60s, he obsessed over developing electronic instruments and became increasingly reclusive.
Not only did he not compose directly for cartoons, according to his wife he did not even watch them.
He organized the first racially integrated radio orchestra (1942).
His 'Soothing Sounds for Baby' album (1963) presaged the ambient music of Brian Eno.
He provided the soundtracks for several early experimental films by Jim Henson.
In addition to being used in over 40 classic Warner Brothers cartoons, 'Powerhouse' was interpolated into songs by Rush ('La Villa Strangiato'), Soul Coughing ('Bus to Beelzebub') and They Might Be Giants ('Rhythm Section Want Ad').
He was rediscovered shortly before his death with the release of the compilation CD 'Reckless Nights and Turkish Twilights' (1992) and as 'Ren and Stimpy' and 'Animaniacs' used his songs for new cartoons.
