The Resume

    (August 4, 1941- )

Represented Ohio's 6th Congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, (1993–1995, 1997–2007)
    Governor of Ohio (2007-11)
Lost reelection in the 2010 gubernatorial election to former U.S. Representative John Kasich

Member of the Governors' Council at the Bipartisan Policy Center
Announced his candidacy for the United States Senate against incumbent Rob Portman (February 25, 2015)
    Democrat

Why he might be annoying:

He is the Midwestern/Southern counterpart to Howard Dean: both prone to going unhinged during interviews and at rallies.
He was accused of ripping off Elizabeth Warren's income equality rhetoric during his 2016 Senate campaign stump speeches.
He was denied reelection twice during the Right's 1994 and 2010 Midterm surges, as both a Congressman and Governor respectively.
He may have violated Ohio state law by bribing a State Auditor candidate with a cabinet appointment should he drop out of the race (eventually assigning him to a position he was not legally qualified for).
He has a thirty year career in American politics but will probably only be known as that guy behind an angry, arm-jabbing Hillary Clinton ranting 'shame on you Barack Obama!' - nodding excessively, during the heated 2008 Democratic Primaries.
Obama supporters joked about him mercilessly when the video went viral, among other things commenting that he looked like a 'lap-dog' 'helper monkey' 'Yes Man' and a bobble-head having an orgasm.
More constructive criticisms focused on the fact that despite his indignant reaction to Obama's attacks, he utilized virtually the same attacks on his own opponents and knew that Hillary did not initially support NAFTA.
His loyalty to the Clintons resulted in his frequently, often vehemently, denying that he would accept the Vice-Presidential slot were it to be offered to him by the Obama Campaign, despite being from a potential swing state which could impact the general election.
He was caught in the middle of an administration scandal during the General Election in 2008, when it was revealed that a member of his cabinet had conducted unlawful background checks onJoe the Plumber (Oct. 27, 2008).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first in a family of nine to go to college.
He is an ordained minister who was an administrator at a Methodist children's home in Lucasville.
He had the bad luck to be snared by the Great Recession during the middle of his term.
Nonetheless, he was able to lower his state's unemployment rate before the end of his term.
He is a blue-collar Democrat who has been able to work with Republicans.
Karl Rove used one of his damned white erase board charts to criticize his comments on Chris Christie's culpability in the Bridge-Gate scandal.
He led the movement to petition for a public referendum on Gov. John Kasich's bill to curtail collective bargaining for Ohio public employees (Mar. 2011).
He implemented the largest tax cut in Ohio history, while also passing two balanced state budgets during his term as Governor.
He froze tuition for two years to help make state colleges/universities more affordable for Ohio residents.
Despite supporting Hillary over Obama in 2008, he received support from the Obama Administration during his reelection campaign and was briefly shortlisted to be an alternate representative to the United Nations in 2013.
