Why he might be annoying:

He was married and divorced three times, with his marriages breaking up largely over his paranoid accusations of infidelity.
In opposing female suffrage, he called women 'half-apes... mad, criminal, instinctively evil animals.'
When he was tried for blasphemy for his play 'Married,' he claimed he was the victim of a conspiracy by feminists, with the Queen of Sweden behind it.
    He drank heavily.
He pursued alchemy and claimed to have discovered how to turn base metals into gold.
He said the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe, who had died the year Strindberg was born, had migrated into his body.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was also a painter whose seascapes are highly praised.
He was called the father of modern Swedish literature.
When he was passed over for the Nobel Prize in Literature in favor of Selma Lagerlof, over 20,000 Swedes donated to a fund to honor him.
