He was an All-American swimmer in high school and was named ESPN's National Scholar-Athlete of the Year (1995).
He saved $25,000 for college working as a paperboy and lifeguard and running his own lawnmowing business.
He made 'Outside' magazine's list of the 100 most influential people for humanitarian work in Laos, treating people in remote mountain villages for ailments such as malaria, dengue fever, parasites, and malnutrition (2006).
He established the Got Your Back Network, a nonprofit organization to raise money to support the families of servicemen and women who died serving their country.
He was named an assistant to the US Surgeon General for the 'Healthy Youth for a Healthy Future' program to combat childhood obesity (2009).
He completed eight Ironman triathlons.
He looks great in a uniform -- and even better out of it.
