The Resume

    (September 8, 1895-November 21, 1980)
    Born in Orizaba, Veracruz,, Mexico
Birth name was Sara Garcia Hidalgo
Acted in 'Le Tercera Palabra (The Third World; 1956),' 'Los Tres Garcia (1947),' 'Dona Clarines (1951),' and 'Dicen Que Soy Mujeriego (1949)'
Nicknamed 'La Abuelita de Mexico' ('Mexico's Grandmother')

Why she might be annoying:

From the very beginning of her career, she was typecast as grandmothers.
She had her teeth extracted - at the age of 30 - so that she could maintain her hold on 'old lady' roles.
Her own 1950's sitcom bombed badly and was canceled.
She worked fine with Jorge Negrete - until he started dating her daughter (her disapproval led her to break off the relationship a year later).
Those who knew her described her as an abrasive and unforgiving mother-in-law from hell.
She concealed her lesbian proclivities by playing stereotypical butch women in her movies.
For instance, in the comedy 'Fin de la fiesta' (1972) her mother character kills her effeminate gay son by beating him to death with sticks.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was the only survivor of eleven children.
She worked well opposite Mexico's beloved screen idol Pedro Infante.
She outlived her daughter (who died of Typhoid Fever in 1938) by over forty years.
She was immortalized as the spokesperson for Nestle's Abuelita Chocolate, and the products still bear her likeness.
She was with her life partner, Rosarito, for sixty years until her death, and bequethed her everything.
She was equally adept at both comic parts and dramatic roles.
She appeared in 'Ahi esta el detalle (You're Missing the Point),' which many point to as one of Cantinflas' best movies.
She was a certified box office star in Mexico despite being the antithesis to the ideal 'leading lady.'
Her career saw a major revival in several popular telenovelas, including the long-running Mundo de juegete.
She had longevity; starting in silent movies in 1917, and working right up to her death in 1980.
