The Resume

    (October 20, 1927-November 24, 2011)
Born in Birkenhead, England, United Kingdom
Birth name was Ronald Patrick Ross McManus
    Singer and trumpeter
Performed with the Joe Loss Orchestra
Recorded the single 'Patsy Girl' (1964)
Wrote and sang songs for the movie 'Secrets of a Superstud' (1975)
Father of Declan Patrick MacManus, aka Elvis Costello

Why he might be annoying:

He said he based his trumpet playing style on Miles Davis because Dizzy Gillespie was 'too complicated.'
He recorded covers of recent hits under various pseudonyms for low-budget labels.
A batch of his Elvis Presley covers were later re-issued as the album 'Elvis' Dad Sings Elvis.'
Before being best known as Elvis Costello's dad, he was best known for writing and singing 'I'm a Secret Lemonade Drinker' for R. White's Lemonade.

Why he might not be annoying:

He came up with a particularly durable jingle as 'I'm a Secret Lemonade Drinker' was used in British adverts for over a decade.
He played trumpet on a couple of Costello's albums.
He was proud of his son's talent, joking 'I have a feeling that fairies stole my little boy and brought me this genius in his place.'
