    When acting gigs were sparse, she supported herself as a secretary, waitress, key-punch operator and a jazz club singer. She admits that her singing was some of her best 'acting.'
    She was known for her refusal to portray stereotyped black roles, yet was not above acting in cheap blaxploitation movies, such as 'Monkey Hu$tle' and 'Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde.'

    Her last film role was in a black horror movie, 'Tales From The Hood.'
    She was born on New Year's Eve and died on Halloween.
    She attended City College of New York and became a founding member of the highly regarded Negro Ensemble Company.
    She was a veteran actress of three medias; stage (including Broadway), screen, and television.
    Her many interests outside acting included writing poetry, painting, playing guitar, cooking, sewing and gardening.
    She was nominated for an Emmy for her work on the PBS production of 'Go Tell It on the Mountain' (1985).
    She earned the Black American Cinema Society's Phoenix Award for her work in motion pictures (1987).
    She was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame (1992).
