Premise: A New Yorker graduates medical school on a State of Alaska scholarship that required him to practice in Anchorage for four years - however, the fine print allows them to send him to a small Alaskan town.
It premiered during the summer of 1990, a weird time to premiere a TV series on network TV.
The radio station DJ Chris was an ex-prisoner and by answering an ad became an ordained minister in the Worldwide Church of Truth and Beauty.
Shelly, who was not yet 21, was in love with post sixty year old Holling and they eventually married.
Due to continuity errors, the population has varied from 215 to 849. They eventually settled on 839 because the budget was $839,000 per episode.
To keep the show going after Joel's 4 year contract ended, Alaska pulled a move that because of the devaluation of the US dollar, his contract was extended an extra year.
The star, Rob Morrow, grew tired of the series and quit, so they wrote in that a contract could not be expanded since it was already being executed, so they gave Joel back his year and $1200.
The writers purposely never gave a real location to Cicely.
Joel and Maggie were always at odds but eventually got engaged, yet continued to refer to each other by their surnames.
Maggie was literally the kiss of death, five of her boyfriends (Harry, Bruce, Glenn, Dave and Rick) died after sleeping with her.
