    Portrayed Dr. Richard Daystrom in the Star Trek episode 'The Ultimate Computer' (1968) and the King of Cartoons in Pee Wee's Playhouse (1986-91)
    His TV series 'Harlem Detective' was canceled when he was accused of being a Communist.
    He and Sylvia Jarrico had four children out of wedlock.
    His distinguished stage career was overshadowed by his roles in blaxploitation/horror films.
    He had a commanding baritone voice.
    The London Sunday Times called him 'the best Othello of our times.'
    He taught acting at the University of California, Irvine, and Chicago's Creative Arts Foundation.
    He said, 'I daresay the vast majority of people don't go to the theater, so I don't mind that I'm still so strongly identified with Blacula.'
