Why they might be annoying:

They claimed their name was not intended to have any sexual connotation.
They were signed to Reprise Records sight unseen as a novelty act.
When David Bowie wrote them a fan letter, they ignored it. (June Millington admitted, ‘I didn’t know who he was.’)
They landed their biggest hit single, ‘Butter Boy’ (#29 on the Billboard Hot 100), after the band had broken up.

Why they might not be annoying:

They were discovered at an open mic night by producer Richard Perry, who decided ‘This is a band that needs to be recorded.’
They opened on tours for the Kinks, Jethro Tull, Slade, and Humble Pie.
June Millington said, ‘We knew we had to prove we could play and deliver live. Otherwise, no one would believe it.’
They were banned from the London Palladium for being too sexy.
They influenced later all-female bands like the Runaways and the Bangles.
Bowie said, ‘They were extraordinary: they wrote everything, they played like motherfuckers, they were just colossal and wonderful.’
